Hey Drive, nice palette.

Similar to Escape from New York most of Drive is filmed in the dark, leaving only car headlights, streetlamps and other road lights to properly light a scene. However, when color and fully lit scenes are utilized, they are extremely emotive. One small example from above: Irene is visually described as the warmth in Driver’s life—she’s bathed in warm orange tones and wears cozy shades of red but as the Driver’s situation worsens throughout the film, Irene loses some of this visual warmth. Desaturating these warm colors and replacing them with pale, dull blues and grays makes the scene feel hopeless and sterile. Irene’s affection for the driver is tender and lingering but for the most part, the red shades develop in other scenes of violence later on in the film.
